Perched on a gently sloping plot, this replacement dwelling enjoys truly breath-taking, uninterrupted views across the rolling Shropshire Hills - a landscape of timeless beauty that shaped every element of the design. The architectural response was to create a sunken, ‘upside-down’ home that not only embraces the natural contours of the land but elevates the living spaces to capture panoramic vistas at every turn. Expansive glazing and a seamless connection to the outdoors ensure the ever-changing scenery becomes a living backdrop - flooding the interior with light and framing the hills in all their seasonal splendour.

The choice of materials was deeply inspired by the local architectural vernacular, ensuring the new dwelling feels rooted in its setting. A beautiful, characterful stone was sourced from a nearby quarry, grounding the building in the very landscape it overlooks. To complement the texture and tone of the stonework — and to echo the traditional craftsmanship of the oak frame structure — we introduced contemporary oak cladding. This pairing of natural materials creates a rich, timeless palette that both honours local heritage and brings a refined modernity to the design.

Parking is discreetly integrated at the upper level of the site, allowing direct access to the entrance porch and the main living spaces. This elevated approach not only enhances the arrival experience but also ensures that the principal accommodation enjoys uninterrupted views from the outset. Below, the bedroom level opens directly onto a secluded private garden — offering a quiet, sheltered retreat. The heart of the home is the open-plan living space, which flows seamlessly onto a generous roof terrace, perfectly positioned to take in the sweeping, panoramic views of the Shropshire Hills — a truly breathtaking backdrop for daily life and entertaining alike.
