BEFORE

AFTER
The brief for this bungalow transformation was to reimagine the home as a modern, spacious family dwelling. Key priorities included creating a generous open-plan kitchen/dining/living area with a strong connection to the large rear garden, adding two new bedrooms, a main bathroom and an ensuite on the first floor, and giving the property a bold, contemporary facelift.

To achieve this, we reconfigured the internal layout — relocating the staircase to improve flow — and extended both to the front and rear of the property. Carefully positioned dormer windows were added to accommodate the new upper floor, featuring striking floor-to-ceiling glazing that frames views and floods both levels with natural light.
Externally, the original brickwork was painted a dramatic black to modernise the appearance, while vertical timber slats were introduced to soften the façade, add warmth, and break up the massing. The result is a confident, contemporary home that feels both elevated and inviting — with light-filled interiors and a strong visual connection to the garden.

BEFORE

AFTER
This existing bungalow lacked a clear sense of arrival and was in need of a contemporary upgrade. The transformation began with the addition of a new master suite over the existing garage — complete with a kitchenette, ensuite, living area, and private balcony — while the garage itself was converted into a fully equipped home gym.
One of the key elements of the brief was to introduce a car port. We reimagined this as a striking, full-width canopy structure that elegantly wraps the front of the property, creating a bold architectural feature while forming a welcoming, sheltered entrance.

The new canopy allowed us to visually break up the elevation, and provided a framework for a natural material palette: the lower walls and soffit are clad in warm, untreated larch, while the upper walls and fascias are finished in a contrasting black-stained larch, adding texture, depth, and a contemporary edge.
Set on an elevated plot, the property benefits from spectacular views over the Cheshire landscape, which are now fully celebrated through the rear transformation and improved outdoor connections.
See below for before-and-after images of the rear elevation — and the dramatic transformation that has taken place.

The same refined material palette was carried through to the new rear extensions, creating a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic. At first floor level, a frameless glass balustrade was installed to the balcony, maximising the uninterrupted views from the master bedroom suite. This new extension features a dramatic vaulted ceiling and a fully glazed gable, reaching up to the apex of the pitched roof — drawing light deep into the space and framing the landscape beyond. At ground level, a single-storey extension enlarged the existing lounge, opening it directly onto a sheltered, decked patio. This inviting outdoor space offers the perfect setting for morning coffee or evening cocktails, all while soaking in the spectacular, elevated views over the Cheshire countryside.
3. MOBBERLEY, CHESHIRE.

BEFORE

AFTER
The brief for this bungalow extension was to transform the property into a light-filled, modern family home. Key priorities included creating a spacious open-plan layout that connects the kitchen, dining and lounge areas directly to the rear garden, adding an ensuite to the ground floor master bedroom, and introducing two additional bedrooms upstairs — along with an enlarged main bathroom. Maximising natural light throughout was a fundamental part of the design. To achieve this, the existing detached garage was demolished, and the property was extended to both the side and front. New dormer windows were introduced on the upper floor to bring in generous daylight and frame views from all newly created rooms. The result is a well-balanced, contemporary family home with bright, functional spaces across both floors.
